As the weather transitions to the rainy season, many of us are experiencing some sort of illness, whether it's general weakness, a cold, or the flu. So we shall address the subject of Fever. Most of school-age youngsters are affected since cold and flu are rising. Our immune systems are at their weakest during this season. Fever would also have an impact on grownups.
Since there are so many different varieties of jwara (fever) and the fact that they can be caused by so many different causes, it is impossible to explain jwara (fever) in a concise capsule form without thorough knowledge about the disease. Thus, we cannot give borderline treatment in particular for all distinct types of jwara conditions as each type have distinct treatment approaches. Jwara (fever) is considered Lord Shiva's anger in Ayurvedic literature.
This article will cover Twelve effective ways to cure fever (jwara) at home. Here, we'll talk about do's and don'ts when you have a fever. In adverse cases, medical intervention is required as the main treatment protocol . The methods listed below can be used in the premonitory stage as well as in diseased stage of jwara along with lessening the chances of recurrence of fever.
- Langana chikitsa (Fasting)- Fever occurs on by a person's decreased digestive activity. Fasting is advised during fever for a brief period, preferably for one to five days, since it aids in the metabolism of the undigested meals. One should rigorously avoid fast food, fatty foods, and heavy foods during this time. Fasting should be done considering one's own strength. One can feel their body becoming lighter, seeing signs of good health, having more energy, and having better digestion by doing this. However, It is not advised for weak persons.
- Swedhana (Steam)- Sudation should be applied to a person who has a fever since it aids in perspiration, faeces, and urine elimination and enhances digestion. Place a hollow bowl filled with hot water in front of you, then cover yourself along with bowl with a heavy blanket as you breathe in and out. Try to do this at least once a day for 20 minutes, preferably twice.
- Ushnampupana (Intake of Hot/ Lukewarm water)- Cold water consumption will boost doshavastha (aggravating the diseased condition) . It is advised to routinely drink lukewarm water as it balances the dosha, stimulates digestive activity, and aids in sweat, faeces, and urine excretion. It aids in keeping up the daily routines. It is not advised for you if you're experiencing a fever along with burning sensation, and diarrhoea.
- Avoid Physical exercise- Several people who are fitness freaks or gym addicts will almost certainly continue to work out despite their illness. Workout is done to make a person healthier, but when done in this condition will worsen a sick person's health. As a result, during this time, try to get enough good rest and eat nutritious foods.
- Avoid Oil massage and bathing- Oiling your hair, Bathing and massaging your body with oil is highly not recommended while you are having fever, since this would exacerbate the amavastha that has already built up in the alimentary canal.
- Doopana ( Fumigating the room)- It is a very good practise to fumigate your rooms, especially during rainy seasons, since it aids in infection prevention. This can be done using Aparanjitha Dhoopa Choornam. During the Covid-19, this choorna was proven to be useful. As these feverish diseases are becoming more common, try fumigating your home to cleanse and prevent infections.
- Gandusha (Holding water inside mouth)- When you suffer from a fever and lost your taste, all you need to do is take a glass of lukewarm water mixed with the juice of half a large lemon (citrus medica), 1/4 tsp of ghee, and a pinch of salt. Hold this mixture in your mouth for a while. It is the traditional preparation for gandusha. If it doesn't seem possible at that time, hold lukewarm water in your mouth for a few minutes.
- Kabalam- Gargling with lukewarm water mixed with salt will help relieve running nose, unpleasant taste in mouth, headache, and throat pain. As a result, aim to do it twice a day.
- Intake of Peya and Yavagu Preparation(Liquid and Semi-Liquid Diet)- One can begin a liquid diet for six to seven days while adhering to correct fasting, and then transition to a semi-solid diet until the fever subsides. It contributes to bettering health circumstances. I'll provide a few traditional recipes for you in the upcoming posts to attempt at home. Meanwhile in this section, below two classic preparation can be tried out- Rice Gruel- Rice is cooked in six parts water with a mix of coriander powder, salt, dry ginger powder, and pippali powder. This is how rice gruel is made. Barley Gruel- Barley is boiled with ghee and pippali powder to make barley gruel. It is beneficial in cases of both constipation and fever.
- Mamsarasapana ( Intake of Meat soup)- When you have a fever, you may be hesitant and bored with bland meals. During this time, you may enjoy meat soup preparation. Any meat soup, such as chicken soup or mutton soup, will satisfy your taste buds. Consumption of these soup recipes will aid in the attainment of strength. Try it out!
- Intake of Milk- If you have a fever and a burning sensation, drink milk that has been boiled with dry ginger, date palm, raisins, sugar, and ghee. If you have a chronic fever, cough, dyspnoea, or headache, drink milk made with 1/2 tablespoon of panchamoola churna, which can be purchased from ayurvedic stores. When purifying procedures fail to reduce fever, milk is typically administered. It is better to drink milk that has been boiled with pepper and dry ginger rather than plain milk.
- Virechana (Purgation)-Even if the preceding procedures fail to reduce the fever, purgation therapy can be used. It aids in the removal of vitiated doshas. At bedtime, drink a glass of lukewarm water mixed with triphala churna. Alternatively, you can mix trivrit powder with 1 tablespoon honey and 1/2 teaspoon ghee. Virechana is strictly prohibited in Amaja jwara.
